Some potential exoplanet discoveries are in doubt after a new study has revealed the gaps in debris discs around young stars - currently believed to indicate the presence of an unseen planet - may be the result of something else. The research found interactions between heated gas and debris disc dust can produce similar ring patterns to those caused by exoplanets orbiting distant stars.
